CAT Exam Pattern, Eligibility and Syllabus
CAT exam will be conducted. The notification for CAT will be released. It will be held in computer-based mode across 400+ test centers in India. Like last year, the CAT exam will be conducted in three sessions. The onus of administering CAT 2022 is on IIM Bengaluru. The registrations for CAT will begin in the first week of August and continue till September. CAT is a two-hour test, composed of MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions) and Non-MCQs. Its total number of questions is expected to be 66, as per the latest pattern. In the last few years, there have been frequent changes in CAT exam pattern but, it will most probably be the same this time. CAT result will be out in January 2023. NMAT Syllabus for Quantitative Skills is designed to test a candidate’s numerical skills and mathematical aptitude. NMAT Syllabus 2022 for Logical Reasoning
NMAT Syllabus for Logical Reasoning (LR) section has been set to test the candidate’s general intelligence quotient, logic, and decision-making ability. This section of NMAT exam syllabus is considered very scoring and hence candidates must prepare thoroughly for this part based on the latest NMAT exam pattern and syllabus.
- 36 questions of moderate difficulty level will be asked in this NMAT section.
- The time allotted has been increased from 38 to 40 minutes.
- There is no provision of negative marking for wrong responses.
- Based on last year’s analysis, it can be observed that an equal number of questions are asked from Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning parts of NMAT Syllabus. However, there is no definite pattern of the types of questions, hence candidates should prepare equally well for both the verbal and non-verbal reasoning syllabus.
- Candidates must focus only on the information given in the questions and do not use any other facts of GK or assume any other information as it will lead to false answers. This section focuses on the derivation of inferences and conclusions solely based on the facts and statements given in the questions and it does not matter if it is true or not in real life.

- Verbal & Logical Ability (VA & LR): Questions in this section are mostly from topics like critical and analytical reasoning, vocabulary, reading comprehension, logical deductions, etc. As per the previous year’s trend, a total of 26 questions of moderate-elevated level of difficulty will be in XAT Verbal & Logical Ability section.
- Decision Making (DM): 21 questions will be asked from this section. This section is an interesting feature of XAT exam and consists of questions from topics such as caselet study, data arrangement, decision making in each scenario, ethical dilemma, etc.
- GK: The section is usually of moderate difficulty and there is no negative marking for wrong answers. A total of 25 questions carrying 1 mark each will be asked in this section.
- Essay: 2 topics will be given out of which the candidates will be required to choose 1 and author a short essay of not more than 250 words.

XAT Syllabus 2023: Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation (QA & DI)
XAT Syllabus for Quant & DI is vast and covers all the topics of math. Candidates need to give more attention and extra effort while preparing for this section. Topics covered are from that of the 10th standard syllabus.
- Quantitative Ability: XLRI has brought significant changes to this section. Numbers, Arithmetic, Algebra, and Geometry questions have become more prominent and around 50% of the Quant questions are based on these areas. Mensuration, Venn diagrams, Numbers are other favorite topics on which questions are formed in XAT.
- Data Interpretation: Data tables, graphs, charts, bar diagrams, data analysis & comparison are the major topics for DI, and the questions are majorly asked in sets.
- XAT Quant & DI section is meant to test the student’s calculation and implementation power.
- 28 questions will be asked from this section and candidates are advised to spend no more than 2 minutes and 17 seconds to solve each question.

XAT Syllabus 2023: Verbal and Logical Ability
Verbal & Logical Ability Syllabus for XAT 2023 has been divided into 3 parts viz. Verbal Ability, Reading Comprehension, and Logical Reasoning.
- Verbal Ability: XAT syllabus you need to cover in this part includes questions based on English vocabulary like fill in the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, correction of sentences, use of right words, etc.
- Reading Comprehension: RC forms about 50% of the VALR paper. This part will take more time to attempt as it involves more concentration and proficient reading and analytical skills. The topics for RC could be politics, economics, social awareness, literature, or abstract.
- 4-5 questions will be based on critical reasoning and will involve analytical reasoning.
- 26 questions of the objective type will come from this section.

To score in this section, a candidate needs to remain in constant touch with GK daily. Key features of General Knowledge XAT Syllabus 2023 are mentioned below:
- Topics to be covered in this section are history, politics, author names, business, economy, current affairs (national and international), etc.
- 25 questions will be asked in total. You will be given 25 minutes to complete this section and the essay writing section.

Recent Changes in GMAT Question Pattern

GMAT Syllabus for Verbal Section
GMAT syllabus for Verbal section measures the ability of the test takers to interpret and read the given excerpt to answer the given questions. This section is required to check the probable usage of efficient English as required.
The verbal reasoning section of GMAT syllabus consists of three types of questions:
- Reading Comprehension questions give you a short (200-300 words) or long (300-400 words) passage, and then based on the inferences, answer three or four multiple-choice questions, respectively. You would be tested on the following reading skills: inference, application, main idea, supporting the idea, logical structure, and style.
- Critical Reasoning questions set forth an argument that you then analyze which measures your skill to make arguments, evaluate arguments, and formulate or evaluate a plan of action. There are eight diverse types of CR questions, all of which are multiple choice.
- Sentence Correction problems present you with a sentence. Part of this sentence is underlined, and you must decide if there is a grammatical problem. If so, you choose from one of four alternatives to the underlined portion.
