Selection Process 

Mode of Direct Admission 

A candidate who fulfils one of the following requirements, as applicable for relevant disciplines, may be considered for direct admission to the Ph.D. Programme without appearing in the entrance test 

  • A candidate who is qualified in a national level test such as National Eligibility Test such as UGC/CSIR-NET-JRF (with fellowship), NET-LS (without fellowship), ICMRJRF, DBT-BET, Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE), State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) accredited by UGC/ Central Government or State Government. Candidates must have a valid UGC/CSIR -NET (National Eligibility Test), ICMR-JRF, DBT-BET, GATE, SLET certificate and must have some financial assistance such as UGC/CSIR/ICMR/DBT-JRF/AICTE/ financial assistance from Govt. agencies {Like Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship (RGNF), Maulana Azad National Fellowship (MANF) etc. 
  • A candidate who is a recipient of National Doctoral Fellowship or other fellowships from Government /semi-government organizations (through All India selection procedure conducted by the agencies/organization for award of research fellowships) such as Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Department of Science and Technology (DST (Department of Science & Technology)), Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Indian Council of Medical Research, and similar National Level Organizations. 
  • A candidate who is selected under Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) of AICTE for Faculty Development Programme of a State Government/UGC. 
  • A foreign national who is a recipient of a fellowship by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Government of India and who is sponsored by his/her government. 
  • A self-financing foreign national who is admitted through the Embassy/High commission of his/her country or admitted under a MoU with due clearance from the Indian Missions abroad. As per revised guidelines/instructions of the Department of Higher Education, MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development), GOI on grant of research visa, the foreigners who desire to undertake research in India, should therefore, apply to the concerned Indian Missions abroad with the brief synopsis of the research project to be undertaken in India, the details of places to be visited, previous visits, whether the scholar has secured admission into a recognized or reputed institution and evidence of financial resources. 
  • A candidate working in an externally funded research project in the University as research personnel may be allowed to register for a Ph. D. at the University. Provided further that in such cases, the consents of the PI (Personal Interview) and the supervisor (in case PI is not the supervisor) that the research work of the Project and that of the Ph. D. will not hamper the interest of either. 

Interview Process 

Interview / viva-voce shall be conducted only of those candidates who have completed the online application process. 

Interviews will be held in offline (preferably)/online mode (depending on prevailing Covid pandemic situation). The same will be notified on the university website. It may please be noted that no request for change in date and time of interview will be entertained. Candidature for PhD admission will not be considered if the candidate fails to appear in the interview. 

The final information regarding the date of the interview will be notified on the University’s website. Candidates are advised to keep visiting the University website regularly. 

Performance Evaluation Weightage 

For Candidates Qualified with UGC/CSIR/ICMR/DBT-BET-JRF etc. (with Fellowship): 

Fixed weightage: 70 Marks 

Interview: 30 Marks 

For Candidates Qualified with UGC/ CSIR-NET/ GATE/ DBT-BET, etc. (without fellowship): 

Fixed weightage: 50 Marks 

Percentage of Marks obtained in NET/GATE/DBT-BET/JEST, etc. (20% weightage) – 20 Marks 

Interview: 30 Marks 

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Online applications are invited from the national level tests qualified candidates for direct admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programmes in Central University of Jharkhand for the Academic Session  
  • Candidates for admission to the PhD programme shall have a Master’s degree in relevant discipline with 55% marks or equivalent grade in aggregate for General Category and 50% or equivalent grade in aggregate for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ PWD (Person with Disability).
